For nine decades, Pa Idowu Amos Oguntayo moved through the world with a quiet strength, weaving a tapestry of faith and integrity that became the very fabric of his community. When the sun finally set on his earthly journey at age 90, the city of Ogbomoso did not just mourn; it stood still to witness the closing chapter of a masterpiece.
The air in Ogbomoso grew thick with nostalgia as the “Celebration of Life” began. At the Anglican Model College, the Christian Wake Keep served as a soft prelude to the grand farewell.
The hall, draped in elegance, hummed with the collective breath of those he touched. The starburst ceiling drapings- Large panels of fabric—in white, teal, and light blue—radiate from a central point on the ceiling and stretch down toward the perimeter of the room. This creates a high-impact, tent-like canopy effect that adds height and elegance to the venue.
When his beloved wife, Mama Victoria Arinlade Idowu-Oguntayo —his partner of over 50 years and the Children as well as other family members stepped into the hall, the atmosphere shifted into a space of profound reverence.
The emotional centerpiece of the evening unfolded as the family stood in a unified circle of love to perform a special tribute song in his honour. It was a moment of pure, melodic gratitude that left the grandchildren watching in wide-eyed admiration, their faces reflecting a mix of pride and awe as they witnessed the powerful bond their patriarch had forged.
The following morning, the transition from sorrow to triumph began in earnest. As the motorcade departed the LAUTECH morgue, a somber quiet followed the hearse—but only for a moment. As the procession neared Pa Idowu’s residence, the mourning clothes seemed to lighten. The rhythmic thrum of drums broke the silence, turning the street into a carnival of remembrance. It was a spirited, dancing escort fit for a patriarch, leading him home one last time.
After an intimate lying-in-state at his residence, the journey continued to Ori Oke Baptist Church. Under the soaring rafters of the sanctuary, the air was heavy with the scent of lilies and the resonance of ancient hymns. The officiating minister spoke of a man whose faith was his compass, painting a portrait of a life lived so well that death felt less like an end and more like a promotion.
Then came the grand finale—a reception that redefined the “Premium Celebration.” Under the expert touch of the event planner Mercifield Events and produced by Kyksie Drapes Events, the venue was transformed into a majestic “sophisticated forest.” Emerald green velvet and shimmering gold swags draped the space, while a central runway of bright turf guided guests through a lush, royal landscape
With MC Ogheneroyal at the anchor, the reception surged with life. This wasn’t just a party; it was a rhythmic tribute. Each of Pa Idowu’s children led their families in spirited dances, followed by the vibrant energy of the grandchildren who carried his spark in their steps as the KP LIVE band played.
Amidst the celebration, the hospitality was boundless; guests were treated to a feast of both continental and local delicacies, while assorted drinks flowed ceaselessly throughout the VIP hall and the overflow, ensuring everyone shared in the abundance of a life well-lived.
Among the crowd of dignitaries and leaders stood his son, Captain Adeyemi Idowu, looking out at the sea of faces—colleagues and friends who had travelled miles to stand in the shadow of a legend. In that moment, it was clear: Pa Idowu Amos Oguntayo had not merely exited the stage. He had successfully planted himself in the hearts of his survivors, ensuring that while the man had gone to rest, his story would be told for generations to come.
